Spring 2023 - Spring 2024: Mentee to Mentor

From a kid that was bullied from my accent, I never thought I will be a leader someday; let alone the President of UT Austin's hyperloop organization.

As President of Texas Guadaloop, I learned that effective leadership requires navigating interpersonal challenges and fostering collaboration within a diverse team. This experience has inspired me to emphasize the importance of clear communication and inclusive decision-making for future leaders, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued.

Leading Texas Guadaloop: A Journey of Growth and Leadership

As I reflect on my time as President of Texas Guadaloop, I realize how much I've grown, not just as a leader but as a person. The role taught me what it truly means to lead—navigating interpersonal relationship challenges and developing the programmatic requirements necessary for our team’s success.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my presidency was raising $33,000 to support our initiatives and really building the organizations from the ground up by applying knowledge I gained from industry and successful (startup) founders. This achievement was not just about the money; it represented the faith stakeholders had in our vision. To ensure our success, I developed comprehensive timelines, milestones, and budget plans that kept the team focused and motivated.

Presenting to the Dean, stakeholders, and executive board members was a pivotal experience. It was an opportunity to showcase our team's market and initiatives, highlighting the hard work and dedication that each member contributed. Each presentation felt like a testament to our journey, filled with challenges and victories alike.

But leadership isn’t always straightforward. Dealing with interpersonal relationship problems was one of the most challenging aspects of my role. I learned the importance of empathy, active listening, and effective communication. These skills were crucial in fostering a positive team dynamic and ensuring that every voice was heard.

As I continue to grow and reflect on this experience, I am excited to see how these lessons will shape my future endeavors.
